Cairn Hill has a power of 800kW, making it Ireland's most powerful television transmitter. Cairn Hill provides RTE and TG4 on UHF to the midlands, and was opened in 1978 to fill a large gap of poor reception in the midlands. RTE One is on Channel 40, Net 2 is on channel 43, TV3 is on channel 46 and TG4 is on channel 50.
